Ashabul Kahfi II

“Err..hai!” Pa’an melabuhkan duduk di hadapan Aini.
Macam kenal… “Hai. Assalamualaikum.”

Err...“Wa'alaikumussalam.” Pa’an menolak Sony Ericsson di atas meja ke arah Aini. "Your phone."

“Yours.” Ditolak ke arah Pa’an.

“Thanks by the way.”

“For what?”

Err.. “For taking care of my phone.” And for the lagu.

“You too.”

Sunyi perpustakaan mengambil alih perbualan. Aini kembali kepada bacaan.

Sunyi.
Sepi.
Tak berpetah.
Pa’an masih tak berganjak dari duduk kerusi. Bibir bawah diketap… Ishhh….

“Err…” Pecah sunyi. Pa’an berkira-kira dalam benak. “Aku… Saya…err..” Belakang kepala digaru. “…saya ada masalah.”

***

Motosikal diparkir di perkarangan tersebut. Kunci motosikal ditarik. Helmet ditanggalkan. Seketika, Pa’an membawa pandangan ke seluruh tempat tersebut. Keluh panjang dihela. Tak pasti samada keluh resah, atau keluh lega. Langkah diarah lambat ke deretan paip.

“By the way, awak kenal Dawud Wharnsby Ali?” Perbualan berubah rentak.

Pa’an menggeleng.

“He’s 100 times better than your punk rock Ramones, The Clash and whatnot.”

Pa’an terkedu. Speechless. Memang kaw-kaw kena brainwash dengan Aini nih…

Aini mengemas masuk buku-buku ke dalam beg. “Ok. Got to go. Dah lewat ni.”

Pa’an memandang sekilas jam di tangan. “It’s 12.50 tengahari. Apa yang lewat?” Dahi berkerut seribu.

“Zohor dah nak masuk. Assalamualaikum.”

Tangannya memulas paip. Tangan ditadah ke arah air lalu.
Bismillah…

***

“Bet…”

Siapa pulak buat suara syahdu tengah-tengah…. Tak sempat pun Bet nak berpaling, Pa’an dah mengambil tempat di sebelah Bet.

“You got a sec?”

“Sure.” Bet melipat sejadah.

“Aku…” Pa’an menelan liur. Memang peti suara pun terasa pecah masa ni. Tekak terasa kering bak Sahara. Suara memang tak dapat nak dikeluarkan. Tapi, yang dia tahu, dia nak luahkan. “…aku nak jadi baik.” Long pause…, “Aku nak Allah sayang aku….”…balik.

Bet sekadar membisu. Dibiar jeda, memberi ruang bicara untuk Pa’an.

“Aku dah jauh menyimpang. Aku jahil. Entah…” Memang solat zohor tengahari tadi dia terasa satu kelainan. Tenangnya  halur menjalar. Bukannya dia tidak pernah solat sebelum ni. Cukup lima waktu.

“I’m all ears.” Bet kekal tak beriak, but deep inside, he’s keen to listen.

“Aku dah rasa jauh. Aku nak balik kepada dulu.”

Dulu. Dulu yang memang zillion light years terasa jauhnya dari sekarang. Dulu lagi sebelum Pa’an jadi so-called street artist. Dulu lagi sebelum Pa’an buat  seni tu semacam ekspresi kepada freedom and escapism. Dulu lagi sebelum Pa’an habiskan masa malam dengan graffiti yang entah apa faedah.
Tapi itu dulu.
Dulu.
Bukannya Bet tak ambil tahu, cuma dia yang hanyut sendiri. Yang dia tahu, sembahyang, puasa dia cukup. Tak teguk Whiskey nor Sherry.  Merokok pun memang jauh sekali.

“Aku tak fikir Allah akan sayang aku selagi aku treat Islam as a quote-unquote religion status atas IC.”

“Even Jibril once, when Firaun was drowning in the middle of the sea, collected soil, dust sebab nak sumbatkan ke dalam rengkung Firaun ketika itu, just because, he feared, once Firaun stumbled upon words and asked Allah to forgive save him. And he feared Allah’s mercy may reach upon Firaun dan Firaun terselamat.”

“That is how merciful Allah is. That is how loving Allah is.”

"But, don't ever take it lightly. Sesetengah orang take it lightly, itu yang jadi rasa bila dah tua baru nak bertaubat. Maha Pengampun Allah pada kita yang bawa dosa bertan-tan, bukan pada dosa yang sama yang kita sengaja ulang-ulang."

‘Ceramah’ Aini pagi tadi kembali menjengah. Tak tahu kenapa mulut terasa ringan nak cerita segala bagai kepada Aini dan Bet.
Mungkin sebab lagu Ashabul Kahfi dah bawa dia merentas bedtime story dengan Mama. Mungkin sebab dia rindu Mama belai dia dengan Islam sejak kecil lagi. Mungkin sebab, ‘ceramah’ Aini tadi pagi. Mungkin sebab solat zohor tadi terasa tersangatlah tenang

Freedom and escapism pada solat mungkin.
Freedom and escapism pada kembali ke jalanNya.

Which is, for sure, way more calming and soothing.

“Bet…” Hening sepi menyapa. “Aku nak start anew. Dari box ZERO... not even a dice throw, not even a step ahead, not even taking shortcuts through snakes or ladder either."

You know why I write more, and talk less?

You know why I write more, and talk less?” Datar suara Addin. Pandangannya bertumpu pada wajah Areh.

“Err. Coz u just love to?” Kepala yang tak gatal digaru. Sengih sumbing diukir.

“Sebab tulisan boleh padam. Boleh review. Boleh edit. Kalau blogpost pun kalau kita sedar tersilap boleh revert to draft. But when u’re talking, there’s no backspace.” Addin menghela nafas.
"Dan biasanya kita fikir sebelum kita tulis dan taip."

Lecture notes Circuit Theory yang tadi ditatapnya dimasukkan ke dalam fail. Meja study dikemas, jadual exam disemak kembali. Kalendar ditatap, satu pangkah diletak atas tarikh 16 November 2012 tanda hari ini sudah sudah berlalu. Pejam mata, bukak mata, then dah 17 November. Dua hari lagi.

“Life has no backspace.” Areh mengungkap kata-kata Hadi. Betul lah. Sekali kita cakap sesuatu, buat sesuatu, dah tak boleh tarik balik. Faidza fa’alta syai’an, fatadabbaru akibatahu. Apabila hendak buat sesuatu, renungkan akibatnya dahulu.

With actions, come consequences. Kata orang tua-tua, Ikut rasa, binasa.

Addin bingkas bangun usai mengemas meja belajarnya.

"Well, it supposed to be that way. Writing should make people be more wary of their words, and think before they write. Yet u see, how people are using the so-called freedom of speech now? Facebook. Twitter. Ironic.” Addin mengeluh.

Well, lecture time. Heh. Tapi takpe, best jugak dengar dia ni membebel kadang-kadang. Gaya philosopher pon ada. Areh sengih.

“Yang kau sengih sorang-sorang ni kenapa?” Nada sedikit berubah. Kening kiri diangkat. Pelik sungguh budak ni, orang serious dia sengih-sengih.

“Takde apa. Saja senyum, sedekah. Tengok kau asyik muka pekasam 24/7, saje aku nak test kot2 aku pon dah berjangkit ngan kau.”

“Aduh. Hoi, apa cubit2 ni?” Areh menggeliat dicubit Addin. Senyum pudar, kening pula berkerut.

Tangan ditarik dari kiri pinggang Areh. Senyum diukir. “Sekarang aku pulak sedekah”.

“Banyak lah kau punya sedekah.” Kening masih senget. Tangan kanan menggosok-gosok pinggang yang sakit dicubit.

“Heh. Sorry.” Bahu Areh digosok. “We cool?”

“Yeah”. Areh senyum.

“May I proceed?”

“Yeah prof.”

Dia ni memang nak kena la. Hish. Addin geleng kepala.

“You know once I was like infuriated.”
“Ada sorang mamat ni. Post hadith palsu dekat facebook. Ingatkan orang lain supaya berpuasa Arafah, lepas tu dapat pahala 80 tahun ibadah. Dengan hadith yang meragukan, perawi pun tak disertakan.”
"Lagi satu kes, post hadith kat bawah ni. Then Fathi al-Sakandary ada komen tentang hadith tu."

Dah pasang muka serius balik dah dia ni. Areh masih senyum. “Maybe he didn’t know.” Gumam Areh rendah.

“The exact answer he gave to me.”
“If we’re truly muslim and practice what’ve been told in the Quran, we won’t use such answer just to escape the blame.”

Aii.. Marah nampak bang.

Kalau bukan kita marah kerana agama, kerana Allah dan Rasul, untuk apa lagi kita marah?

Mulut membisu, mata menjeling, hati berkomunikasi.

(Surah al-Hujurat, ayat 6)

“Exactly.” Addin senyum tanda setuju.

“Or maybe it is just me. I’m just poor in expressing using words.” Gumam Addin rendah.

"Oh btw, siapa Fathi al-Sakandary?"

"Yang tu kena la discover sendiri. Hehe. Ok la. Dia belajar Medik & Hadith kat University Alexandria".

Wow. Medic. Sains. Hadith. Diniyyah. Bestnya.
“You know why I talk more, and write less?” Areh pula memecah kesunyian, menimbulkan conjugate persoalan yang ditimbulkan Addin awal-awal tadi.

Addin senyum. “Because u think before u talk?”

“Nope. Because I don’t get 8 for my IELTS writing. Not like u.” Are sengih. Cepat-cepat bangkit dari kerusi, lari.

“So now langgar lari? 5feet distance or what?” Addin terbahak-bahak. “Kau ni memang nak kena betul.”
Areh sekadar senyum. Angkat bendera putih. “Aku give up.” Ketawa pecah, menghidupkan bilik tu.

“Surau jom?” Pintu bilik dibuka, serentak laungan azan masuk menyelubungi bilik 503.

“Indahnya hidup dibayangi al-Quran.”

“Syed Qutb?”

“Yup. Best kalau semua orang hidup berlandaskan al-Quran, dan as-sunnah. Meng'sibghah' kan Islam dalam hidup. Just like tea.

"Tea?"

"Yeah. Air dan tea sudah saling bercampur, serasi, tak boleh dipisahkan."
"Jom. Surau." Addin memimpin langkah, keluar bilik, menuju surau.

They say it is the freedom of speech,
uttering and writing whatever came across their mind,
false news, false accusations, slender, false information, and also false hadith.

Yet they forgot to utilize their freedom of thinking,
thinking of the consequences,
and how to avoid calamities and negative impacts.

They say nobody warned them,
yet they forgot,
Allah has brought down the Quran,
as reminders, as guidance,
for those who fear Him.

They forgot,
tongue and genitals are the main reasons,
dragging human to hell.

They forgot,
they'll be held responsible,
for all their doings,
wrong and right.

They forgot,
all things they write or say,
all will become their share,
good ones for their reward,
bad ones for their sins,
all are accounted for.

A good person, either he is a Muslim or not,
should take good care of his words.

DEATH, LEGACY & INTELLIGENCE

For my first writing, I would like to point out the reality of life; to ponder upon the inevitable death, to shed some light to the term of intelligence and wisdom, as well as to share and remind ourselves about our duty in this world.

After reading this text, I pray that the readers can get plenty of benefits, and at last be a smart, wise and intelligent person to face our life ahead.

(WARNING: Please follow the flow of this text, or the message would not reach you. INSTRUCTION: Please read with a slow pace, and reflect yourselves after each paragraph)

DEATH creates such a scary atmosphere. When we remember death, all things in this world seem to be so meaningless. We start to look things based on the akhirah point of view. We can treat both good and bad things that happen to us equally; that is with patience, knowing everything will end with death.

Remembering death makes us feel sad, week and hopeless, but that’s not what we ‘should’ feel. Yes, those feelings are needed to enslave ourselves to The Almighty Allah, but do those emotions push us to race in doing good things? By remembering death, we must feel the urge to do something good for the humanity.

Let’s think for a while, do you think that when you are dead, it will bring any effect to your community? Will the society (not just your family) weep for your death? If you are, then you are doing a really good job here in this dunya. If not, then we are in the same boat; same sinking boat, I’m afraid.

The Prophet (Sallallahhu ‘alaihi wasallam) once said:

“When the son of Adam dies his actions come to an end except three things, a continuing charity or knowledge which gives benefit or a pious child who prays for him”

(Sahih Muslim)

From the hadith above, it is clear that when you are dead, what is left is the LEGACY that you have built that benefit the community; only then a continuous flow of rewards will straight go to your I’lliyiin (good deeds) account.

Some people will say, do this legacy even necessary to attain jannah? Yes, it does! Take a look at the sahabas (companions), the likes of those who Rasulullah (peace be upon him) promised jannah even before their death. They have been mocked, ridiculed, tortured and even killed to make sure this deen reach us. Our efforts seem like nothing when being compared to their sincere sacrifice. That is their legacy, what about us?

Are we being protected by Allah from any sins? Are we being promised by the Prophet a place in jannah? Are we feeling contented with the deeds we have done so far? Have we built our own legacy? The big question is, are we ready for our own death?

Upon finishing reading the passage above, I am sure that now you guys can see our purpose of life. The purpose of our life is to serve Allah; The One and Only (Ilah) and in order to serve Him in our short duration of life, building our own legacy seems to be of the utmost important.

So, back to our main topic, how can death make us be an INTELLIGENT person? In remembrance of death and preparing for it, it shows that the person has a definite purpose in life. They have a plan and a mission to fulfill. They are bounded to the solid ground of truth, not deceived by the temporary pleasure of dunya. They are intelligent and wise because they are preparing for something much bigger and more ‘real’ than dunya, which is akhirah.

“But you prefer the worldly life, While the Hereafter is better and more enduring.” {Surah Al-A’la, 87:16-17}

I am an engineer-to-be after all, (If God wills it); mathematical expressions become my second language. So, to conclude my post, below are the crucial points being expressed in an equation :
Death (Remember + Preparations) = Clear Purpose in Life = Intelligent

Ibn Umar reported: I was with the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, when a man came from the helpers and he greeted him with peace. Then he said, “O Messenger of Allah, which of the believers is the most virtuous?” He said, “Those with the best character.” He said, “Which of the believers is the most wise?” He said, “Those who remember death often and have best prepared for it with good deeds. Those are the wisest.”
[Sunan Ibn Majah, Book of Asceticism, Number 4259, Hasan]

Let’s do our best and race doing good things! May Allah give us His blessing based on our efforts and noble intentions, and guide us in the right path.

Be a dai’,
Build a legacy.
